Experts agree that group exercise can be beneficial. "Working out in a group provides support, accountability, and structure," says Lynne Vaughan, Chief Innovation Officer of the national YMCA. "People don't want to let their buddy or group down, which is terrific in terms of adherence to an exercise routine."
Exercising together increases the level of the feel-good endorphin hormones naturally released during physical exertion, studies suggest. But more generally we know from experience that exercising in groups is good for people at many levels, it's motivational, it's social.
Exercising outside can burn up to 30 per cent more calories than doing the same workout indoors – a statistic that makes venturing away from the gym a very tempting prospect.
Instead of being housed in a climate-controlled building, The Fitness Freaks classes place you out in the open air, and your time in the great outdoors will certainly beat spending an hour sweating on a treadmill in an air-conditioned gym week after week, for months on end.
Designed to provide motivation and to stop minds and bodies getting bored, each session gives a full cardiovascular workout through a combination of/either team games, paired exercises, circuits, anaerobic or strength work and running for people of all fitness levels.
The Fitness Freaks sessions are open to everybody and anybody and cost just £10 per person, per session but look out for our special offers which are detailed on our News page:
